Cathwor 2nd Term School Year 2006-2007

Human Dignity Cathwor Final Exams

Nobody fails in my subject because he or she does not know the answers. The Questions I asked here are for my students' self-evaluation on how much they give importance to learning for life. It is not the number of correct answers that solely counts but the decision to learn. May Jesus' Table Fellowship Experience be Ours.
"Behind every successful endeavor
are the sacrifices that went into its undertakings.
Be tender with the young,
compassionate with the aged,
sympathetic with the striving and
tolerant of the weak and the wrong...
Sometime in life you will have been all these..."

STUDENTS IN CSB
1. I...
I am a student of CSB. I an average student and I have failed in some of my subjects. I continue to learn from mistakes and this institution has welcomed me and accepted my misgivings. I may not be the best student but I have learned what I needed to know.
1.1. See...
It amazes me how rich my co-students are. Majority of the students here has a big house, a car and expensive clothes. They spend a lot, they have a lot of vices and they get to go the coolest places in town. Most of the students are children of rich business men. What is good about them is the fact that even though they are very rich, they have humility. Like getting along well with classmates which are not as rich as them. Their humility is the most admirable quality that they have. Their weakest characteristic is their poor academic performance.

1.2. Judge...
While some people judge CSB students as “rich dumb kids”, I beg to disagree. Most of the graduates of this college are now successful individuals, making a name for themselves and of the school. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that there are some students who are very boastful and loud about their wealth. And the mentality that there is someone superior over the other. “People have a right to the fruits of their own labor but use them for the benefit of all”-Economic Imperialism.” The sea is his and he made it. And his hands formed and dried the land.”(Psalm 92: 5-6), god made us all equal.
JUDGE:

Life-giving:

I- Destitution of the masses & exploitation of the workers (RN).
*all have been created & redeemed by God. divine grace and the good of nature belong equally to all.
-Amos 8:1 - the meaning of this passage is that dont judge the book by its cover.

1.3. Act...
I try to be different. I study and I get along well with others. I always try to reach out to others may they be wealthy or not. The idea that we students are dumb is very unbecoming. Let us all show them what we can be and practice the values and morals that were taught to us.

2. You...

2.1. See...You as a person, you see the people around you taking advantage of their parents money. Learn to be simple and appreciate the simple things that matter in life. Which is family, friends and God.
2.2. Judge...Dont be mean or degrading to others. You as a person has the responsibility to a person with worth and respect.
2.3. Act...learn to say no to peer pressure and be an individual. Don’t do anything just because its cool. Learn to love yourself to be able to love others too.

3. We...
3.1. See...we as a community in this school is united. I see a lot of us having certain groupd buut when there are times that we get to interact with one another, each one is very accepting and approachable.

3.2. Judge... as a whole church community in the lassalian institution we are judged as lower ranks to DLSU but I tell we are very competent and I know in time we will get the respect that we deserve.

3.3. Act...Study and prove the people wrong. Graduate on time and don’t waste your parents hard earned money. -Evangelization today (EN) .
*God loves the world and through Jesus salvation is avalable to all.
-Zechirah 7:4-14 - the true religion

4. Say/Do...
4.1. See... the way students talk now, there is no more respect for others. We all swear and curse. We act liberately, smokoing and drinking in public for all to see.

4.2. Judge... With all these vices surrounding us, our parents reputation is at stake. We are a mirror of what they see.

4.3. Act... Think how it will affect your family. Let yourself be respectable person, not only for your sake but for your family. A good name is very important in this world. Think of your future and the children you will have. -Evangelization today (EN) .
*God loves the world and through Jesus salvation is avalable to all.
-Zechirah 7:4-14 - the true religion

5. Time/Place...
5.1. See...
We are getting westernized and unculterized. We act like Americans and we appreciate other cultures more. Being liberated neglecting the values that were taught to us. Changes and conflicting forces (GS) .
*everyone has a right to culture, thought and expression.
5.2. Judge...
That the youth today doesn’t have respect for the elders anymore. I am still a grandma’s girl, I may be misunderstood but I am a good daughter, friend and person.
5.3. Act...Practice what you teach, be a person with worth. Always show others that you are a good person, learn to know your roots. It is important to know where you come from to be able to face the future. -Evangelization today (EN) .
*God loves the world and through Jesus salvation is avalable to all.
-Zechirah 7:4-14 - the true religion
6. Meaning...
6.1. See...The meaning of life in generally ids learning from mistakes. We as student of csb has been very lucky to have the money study and buy everything in our hearts desire.

6.2. Judge...
Since people think that we are less capable than others, we tent to judge them as well. Which I think is wrong in this society.
6.3. Act...
Your actions matter. All that you do and all that you are represents not only yourself but of your school and family. There is still time to change and change is the only constant thing in this world. Keep God in your thoughts and in your hearts and you will get past all the hardships that will come to your life.

SEE:

I- people in CSB i think have unique talents and features from each other but i think even though they are different, they act as one as St. benilde has taught us.

YOU- students in csb are outgoing and are flexible that you can talk to them any topic under the sun.. they are full of ideas and opinions that’s why i think they have lots of friends.

WE- they say CSB students don’t follow elders but i think its not true.. CSB students follow their professors, the rules and regulations in school that’s why i think they succeed not only in school but also in their respective lives.

SAY/DO- students in CSB i believe do what they say and feel bad if they don’t fulfill what they have promised or said to friends or to others.

TIME/PLACE-CSB students have a strong bond together and i believe that’s what
St. JOhn Baptist de La Salle and St. Benilde has taught us.. its our culture to enjoy, have fun, suffer together that’s why i think that makes benildeans different from other schools.

MEANING-regardless of the religion of students here, if they have religous activities, they participate and act together as if there is only one religion.

JUDGE:

Life-giving:

I- Destitution of the masses & exploitation of the workers (Leo XIII, RN, 1891)
Natural inequalities in talents exist among people, but God has gifted all with equal dignity.

YOU- Destitution of the masses & exploitation of the workers (RN).
all have been created and redeemed by god. Divine grace and the good of nature belong equally to all.

WE- Socio Economic Life
Human Labor is superior to other elements of economic life; economic activity detrimental ot the worker is wrong and inhuman.

SAY/DO- PP (Universal purpose of created things
God intends the earth and its good for use by everyone. All other rights must be subordinate to this.

TIME/PLACE-
*everyone has a right to culture, thought and expression.

MEANING- Development Revisited John Paul II SRS, 1987)
**the awareness of the need to change the spiritual attitudes which define each individual's relationship with self, neighbor-human, community, nature

ACT:

I- Common good & Social Justice, right to freedom of movement, right to food, clothing, shelter, rest, medical care, right to life and bodily integrity

YOU- right to communicate, Christians need prudence in determining when to collaborate with non Christians in social and economic affairs

WE- right to life and bodily integrity, defend and safeguard the well-being and rights of the oppressed, cooperation between church in rich and poor nations

SAY/DO- educate people to act justly

TIME/PLACE- right to freedom of expression, education, culture

Meaning-right to religious freedom, right to religious belief, return to Christian spirit and gospel principles, speak out on matters affecting religion and morality, where there is injustice, church must be present.

STUDENTS IN CSB

I:
See—Students are in good homes and are financially stable. They have everything they need and good quality education here in school. The facilities given to them by the school are complete and they are not in lack at all when it comes to biological needs.

Judge—It is life giving because according to GS in the guiding principles, Families are the foundation of society and the healthy conditions of the individual is dependable on stable families. And the students in Benilde are very fortunate to have good homes and families that support them and give them their needs.

Act—They should maintain their rights to life and bodily integrity and their right to food, clothing, shelter, rest and medical care because these are being provided for them now.

You:
See—They are able to have free time to spend with their friends and socialize in school. Also, they have open communication lines with teachers but at the same time respect is very evident considering that they are still their authorities and that is why the school is very civil.

Judge—According to the guiding principle P.E, authority is necessary for the proper functioning of society. This is life giving because the teachers in school are friendly but there is a boundary line that says that they are still our teachers and we can only joke around so much but it stops somewhere. According to the Bible, in the ten commandments, we should honor our mother and father and this is applicable because in school, our teachers are our parents that even if they seem irrational, the students must respect them because they are our authorities.

Act—They should maintain their right to communicate and to freedom of expressions. Having an open communication line is what helps the students and teachers express what they feel without fights and brawls but in an adult manner.

We:
See—Some systems in school are very unreasonable like when you need certain papers you have to pay for it. I know that we can afford it but as a student, and I’m sure most students in Benilde feel the same, that the offices in school put a price tag in everything. Also, some systems like adjusting and the like are inconvenient especially because most of the time it’s their fault due to faulty computer systems that they built and we are inconvenienced for them.

Judge—According to the principle in QA, it is folly to establish a temporal order without God as foundation and according to Luke 6:46-49, the wise builder builds on God as his foundation. Without taking it literally, the school should have a solid foundation and should not change their policies according to who you talk to. There should be consistency in their rules and regulations.

Act—The school should restore our rights to freedom of expression and we should have an open communication line with these offices especially when it is really their fault. Also, our rights to be informed truthfully should be restored because sometimes their policies are very inconsistent and we end up paying for them.

Say/Do:
See—The students are being taught in school about purity and the sanctity of marriage in their religion classes but premarital sex and birth is very rampant in the students of CSB and it has become the norm all around. SO we are taught one thing but most students do not do it or practice what has been taught to them.

Judge—In SRS principle it talks about us being created in God’s image and that is our interior dimension. What I saw is death dealing because the students don’t see that our bodies are God’s dwelling place and He created us in His image so that we would respect and glorify Him through our human bodies. Also, in 1 Cor. 6: 12, 18-20 it talks about being bought at a price and that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and that everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. And so we should look at the Bible and lead our lives from there because the body is not something we should put to waste for it was a gift from God for us to treasure.

Act—We should restore the rights to life and bodily integrity. Because we are made in God’s image and likeness.

Time/Place:
See—The students have acquired the culture of swearing and using foul words. It may seem insignificant but it is a bad habit that almost all students have gained and it has become the norm in school. It is part of their culture now.

Judge—According to James 3:1-11 we should tame our tongues and it should only glorify God because both fresh and salt water cannot come out from the same spring and so with our mouth, we either glorify or demean God. It is death dealing because students don’t even realize how important the power of the tongue is. Sometimes, they cuss without thinking what it really means and how it can affect them and those around them.

Act—They should maintain the right to freedom of expression but at the same time restore the right to communicate and be considerate that these expressions may be offensive to others.

Meaning:
See—the students of CSB are mostly Christians but most of them do not practice it. They think that going to mass every Sunday is enough for them to say that they are Christians but from Monday to Saturday their lifestyles do not speak of what they claim they are.

Judge—In Hebrews 4:!3 it says that nothing is hidden in God’s eyes and that no matter how much you speak about God but not do what He says, it will be brought to light and that in the end, God will be the one to judge you according to how you have lead your life. It is death dealing because the students don’t know that God is powerful and forgiving and loving and if they get to know Him more through His word, they can lead their lives according to His word. Also in principle GS, the church should use the means of the Gospel to fulfill its mission. They should target the students to teach them how God can be personal and not just some spiritual being.

Act—They should restore the rights to communicate and to be informed truthfully but also maintain their rights to religious belief and private and public expression of that belief.

3.2. Judge... it is life giving because the way they run the system of the school is harmless to the students

3.3. Act... Maintain - Right to right to freedom of expression, education and culture

4. Say/Do...
4.1. See... CSB students are true with their words. They are honest with themselves that they are not so into studying, they just want to get dressed and show off their “porma” and their nice cars and just want to chill, smoking a cigarette in front of chowking instead of going to class. But I am not saying that all of the students are like that, just a majority.

Patron, Mark A.

1. I
1a) CSB students are perceived as “socialites” this implies that more and more students are into drinking, smoking and maybe even drugs.
1b) I am also into smoking, so I can say that it is not good for the health because it destroys our lungs.
1c) CSB students should try to avoid these vices because it will not do them any good.

2. You
2a) CSB students are more into joining orgs.
2b) More and more CSB students are joining the organizations in school which makes them more socially aware and responsible.
2c) Joining these organizations should be required by the school to help make the students more socially developed.

3) We
3a) CSB students are into buying “high end” , “expensive products”.
3b) CSB students instead of helping on outreach programs are spending their money on expensive things.
3c) The students should be more of economic persons wherein they should learn to spend their money wisely.

4 Say/ Do
4a) CSB students say that they are more focused on their education but most of the time they are not.
4b) I am one of these types of students especially way back 2-3 yrs ago. I always say that I am focused in my education and it is ok to do gimmicks as long as I can still do my requirements in school. But as days have gone by, I am losing focus on my studies, in short things went out of control. As a result I have reached my MRP.
4c) The school should do their best in monitoring the students.
5. Time/ Place
5a) Many things have changed since I studied here last jan 2000.
5b) Many technological advancements and courses are now being offered to students.
5c) The school should continue and never stop on developing so that it will be able to provide a better education in the future.

6 Meaning:
After being a student of CSB for 6 yrs there are many things that I have learned. I learned to appreciate the things that we have in life. I have been through my darkest days wherein there seems to be no light at all. Then I learned that what you learn in the “college of life” is more important and far more meaningful that what you learn in the college of books.

1. I
1.1. I see that some students does not clean their surroundings. Even if they see some trash on the floor, they still do not pick it up.

1.2 I think it is death dealing because they do not help in maintaining our surroundings clean.
1.3 They should pick help keep the surroundings clean. Even if we have the janitors to clean the surroundings, they should also contribute in keeping our environment clean.

2.YOU

2.1 I saw this girl, she helped her friend bring the food tray at their table because the other girl couldn’t carry it due to her cast.
2.2 the act is life giving because it shows concern for the other person. It is life giving because he helped her friend without waiting for her friend to ask her to help her.
2.3 the act should be maintained. But sad to say, not all CSB students are like that.

3. WE

3.1 I see some students making fun other people.
3.2 it is death dealing because it is not good to make fun of other people especially if they are not doing anything bad to you.
3.3 this act should not be tolerated since it violates some of the human rights such as bodily rights. People should not make fun of other people because it can make a bad impact on the person’s personality.

4. SAY /DO

4.1 students or people say that it is bad to cheat but a lot of students do that especially when they have an exam and they are not prepared.
4.2 this act is death dealing because people no longer study hard but rather, they just depend on their classmates for a higher grade.
4.3this act should not be tolerated because it is not a good act and it violates the rights of others. And I believe that what we say, wee should do but on this matter, it did not happen.

5. TIME / PLACE

5.1 I see some students who are always on time and are performing well inside the classroom.
5.2 this act can greatly affect their future. Because of their act, they are able to learn a lot from school and it will benefit them especially in the near future. What they learn now will surely help them to have a better future. Therefore, this is life giving act.
5.3 this act should be followed by other students. By doing so , their rights will also be achieved.

6. MEANING

6.1 I see students who are always in the chapel, praying.
6.2 based on their acts, I think that it is life-giving because their act strengthens their faith in God and I believe through prayer they can communicate with God as long as they
Want.
6.3 I think that this act should be maintained so that our religious rights will be practiced. This act should be followed by other who regret to give some of their time to god.

1. I
1.1. See – I study in De La Salle – College of St. Benilde wherein it lies along a polluted area in Taft Avenue, Manila. There are some shades of trees near it. The rooms are adequately air-conditioned and nice place to conduct lessons. The college cafeteria provides nice edible foods. There are water fountains installed on every floor for students, staffs, and others to quench their thirst. There are also special rooms used for laboratories such as computer, case room, multimedia and others. Also includes other places like library, auditorium, dance room, music room, basketball courts, and other sports amenities.
1.2. Judge (Life – giving) the school per se is a nice place to study because of the environment and the needs that it caters to.
(Death – dealing) outside the school is polluted and somehow dangerous because of the vehicles that pass by whenever students cross the street
1.3. Act (Maintain) – The cleanliness of the surrounding inside and out of the school and in the classrooms, the needs of the students must be properly maintained all the time especially water, vendos, cafeteria, ATM machines, and other services
(Restore) – Adequate air and additional implants of green shades to make the school look greener than the usual

2. You
2.1. See – I am able to get along to other people especially when it comes to our course (AB-CDA). I belong in a school organization wherein I was the previous executive treasurer. I can mingle to lots of people and I think I almost knew the people studying in CSB (that’s too exaggerated)
2.2. Judge (Life – giving) I am friendly to other people and easy to get along with
(Death – dealing) I’m too nice but other people may think of me as a negative person because they didn’t knew me well.
2.3. Act (Maintain) – Stay being nice and join organizations.
(Restore) – Don’t just act nice but also share my concern to the people I’m really close to.

3. We
3.1. See – we, the students of CSB, are labeled as “bobo”, “coño”, mayabang, etc.. but the fact is, we are students who excel in other aspects such as art that is why our courses are specialized in the way what we really wanted. CSB students are embedded with Benildean core values and that includes our act on social responsibility when we go outside as an individual.
3.2. Judge (Life – giving) the students are aware of the things that is happening in and out of school and continuously participating in student bodies and organizations. We also excel in our different fields and we’re proud of each others’ achievements.
(Death – dealing) – People try to label the students in CSB because they didn’t know what the truth really is. Sometimes, students are apathetic.
3.3. Act (Maintain) - always study, keep on moving, stay to be ourselves, be nice to other people, don’t mind what others say, maintain the core values.
(Restore) – Don’t be just apathetic; be aware at the happenings in or out of the school.

4. Say/Do
4.1. See – Students are studying for them to graduate and get a nice job in the future. So, the students expect to practice what they had learned in school. Others, when they are still in school, they do some extra-curricular works in order to improve their college life like joining in school orgs, volunteering, sports, etc.
4.2. Judge (Life – giving) there are students who get nice careers, started their own businesses, and happy with their life
(Death – dealing) there are still some students who are unemployed and they don’t know what to do after college. Some end up in call centers as temporary jobs to earn money even if they don’t like their job.
4.3. Act (Maintain) – career orientation programs and counseling for the students to know what they are going to do in the future.
(Restore) – Job expo for graduating classes

5. Time/Place
5.1. See – the students established a culture of their own like fashion, attitude, lifestyle, etc. because it is what they had been used to since they enter the school. At first, high school grads and transferees had a grown culture before they enter CSB but as time goes by, they adopt to the environment.
5.2. Judge (Life – giving)it is easy that the students can adopt to the environment
(Death – dealing) there are certain things that influenced the students and it became a bad habit or attitude
5.3. Act (Maintain) – always portray a positive culture for newcomers especially for frosh and transferees.
(Restore) - values in the culture

6. Meaning
6.1. See – The students, as what I’ve said before, are embedded with Christian values. There are who join the Lasallian Ministry, go to the chapel, and attend recollections and retreats. Also, students and faculties begin and end its classes with prayer.
6.2. Judge (Life – giving) students practice their religion freely
(Death dealing) others don’t practice their religion at all
6.3. Act (Maintain) maintain the activities that deals with spiritual nourishment to keep the students involved.
(Restore) – Practice of religion in every student

It is life-giving because you can see them helping each other out. They exchange knowledge and ideas.
1.3
We should promote this kind of behavior because in our own little we are sharing our knowledge to other people who can use it for the good of all.

2 You
2.1
I saw a student help an elderly person outside of CSB.
2.2
It is life –giving because nowadays, you hardly see people helping our elders in the community. They don’t care for them because they think that they are useless and they will just waste their time if they helped them.
2.3
This attitude should be promoted so that people will set as an example in caring for our elderly. We should respect them because they are the ones who taught us a lot of things based from their experiences in life.

3. We

3.1
I see students who are discriminating their classmates because of whatever reason they have.
3.2
It is death-dealing because the students don’t know that the people that they are discriminating are being psychologically traumatized by this. It affects their whole perception of their whole being and it lowers their self-esteem.
3.3
This shouldn’t be promoted; people should care more for other people and respect their being rather that stepping on them. They should think before they do things that they might regret in the end.

4. Say/Do

4.1
The students practice what the values they have learned here in CSB when they go to the outside world. Like for the people who are taking up practicum, they apply what they learned here and often times the company likes students that are from CSB rather from other schools.
4.2
It is life-giving because you can see that the students are learning good values here in CSB. They can set as a good example to their co-workers in the company.
4.3
This should be maintained so that people will learn how to practice the values that they learned from their family, school, etc.

5. Time/Place

5.1
Last, last term I had a class that everyday the students are on time. Our Professor was fond of us because we were the only class who does that.
5.2
It is life- giving because we can inspire other students to come to school on time. This way we can accomplish our tasks and learn things w/o being distracted by people coming in late.
5.3
This should be promoted because it can help other people have a good attitude in coming to school or work early. It can really help them in their work.

6. Meaning
6.1
I see the students in CSB participating in the recollections and retreats whole-heartedly. They give their all in doing tasks and have fun in games.

6.2
It is life-giving because you can see that they are really doing it not just because its required but because it can help you as a being as well.

6.3
This attitude should be maintained because it can really help you as a person in recollecting yourself and thinking about the good and bad things that you’ve done in your life.
